Some must have products for maintaining Showerstalls..

We restore a lot of stone and tile shower stalls here in Santa Cruz. Most are in pretty rough shape from years of neglect. Too many homeowners just don’t know which solutions are safe to use and so many products fail to deliver results or worse, damage the stone or grout surfaces.  Soap scum, mold, hard water deposits, efflorescence and soil become no match for your average home owner if left to grow out of control.

Call Connoisseur to get back in control of your bath room and then stock up your cleaning arsenal with these great products.

The vanishing power of Soap Scum Magic annihilates bacteria-infested residue. The wonder of this product is that it strips away all harmful microorganisms and chemicals but protects your travertine/marble/limestone floor and countertops from other hazardous cleaning supplies. Soap Scum Magic will wipe away your excess lime deposits and rust, while the commonly known product, Lime Away, will permanently damage natural stone, thus requiring the service of a professional restoration company.

Rejuvenates your shower glass to a transparent window (just like when you first moved in) by removing frustrating mold and tarnishing minerals. Glass & Metal Magic polishes the fixtures to an illuminating mirror affect without harming any surrounding polished travertine/marble/limestone in the shower, on the floor or the counter top. Without the use of Glass & Metal Magic, only a professional restoration company would be able to revamp your old shower door and fixtures to look brand new again. Also available in gallon size for the window cleaning professionals.

Keep Your Carpet Clean – What You Can Do.

Carpets are commonly bought to add aesthetic appeal to a room. It beautifies an area, creating a focal point and enhances furniture and other decorations. To adults carpets are more of a decor, but to kids and pets carpets are more of fun furniture that’s ready for rough playing and crawling.

And who can blame them, the fibers of carpets are made for luxury and durability. Soft, sturdy, and multi-functional, carpets are a significant part of every household. Keeping them clean then is the best way to enhance and lengthen their lifespan. There are numerous ways to do this.

You can ask your family and friends to remove their shoes when entering a carpeted room, you can block out pets, and some even go to the extreme and plastic cover carpets! But even with all of these precautionary efforts to keep your carpets clean, the best and most important solution to removing small particles, dirt, dust, microbes, pet dander, dust mites, and pollen from your carpets is by vacuuming them.

Vacuuming regularly and correctly is the trick. Depending on how much traffic your carpets go through, you should vacuum carpets from once to twice per week or once a day if needed. Carpets in stairways, hallways, and entrances would need more vacuuming than others. If you have children and pets, then vacuum more often.

Frequent vacuuming would keep your carpets healthy and clean. In effect, you are assured that your family is safe and healthy as well. Different bacteria and fungi could inhabit your carpets and become sources of different ailments. For people who suffer from asthma and allergies, regular vacuuming of carpets is a must. Allergens such as pollen and dust which are brought from outside enters into your home and gets stuck onto the carpets fibers becoming dangerous triggers of bad health conditions. Although it is difficult to completely rid of home allergens, vacuuming carpets regularly would significantly reduce them.

Before starting to vacuum, remove any objects that may clog your vacuum. Check the height of your vacuum. Adjust your beater bar as necessary to get optimum results. Check the vacuum bag and replace it when it is full. It is advisable for you to overlap your strokes to make sure that you get dirt off of your carpet. Aside from overlapping strokes, you may want to make your strokes slow enough for soil and dirt to be lifted up by the vacuum. Your stroke speed would also depend on the thickness of your carpet and the strength of your vacuum cleaner suction motor.

Give attention to every room. Use calm repetitive cleaning motions and try to get even the hard to reach spots. Clean from baseboards to windowsills because the dirt on them may end up on your carpets as well. You may find it difficult to reach certain areas such as these but cleaning them is still essential. Use vacuum attachments to help you reach even the carpet’s edges and hard to reach places.

There are various types of vacuum assortments and attachments that come with vacuums nowadays. Depending on your daily needs, you may select which ones suit you the most. If you don’t have these attachments yet, go to your local stores and buy them separately. There are a lot of universal attachments available to fit any vacuum type and size.

Some staff changes at Connoisseur

Our employee of the last 6 years, Oswaldo “Oz” lee as moved to Long Beach to pursue other interests. Oz developed a nice fan following by many of our customers over the years and I’m sure they’ll miss him and his hard work and big smile.

Taking over his position will be my son, Davis Pailliotet.

Davis has been involved with the business since he was 12 years old and from what I’ve seen so far, he has a better attention to detail than his old man does.

We also just hired a new young cleaning star, Clayton Knipe. Clayton was hired over hundreds of applicants because of his enthusiasm, youthful energy and the fact he had zero knowledge of the carpet cleaning industry.

Only thing harder than training someone about all the fabrics, stone types, cleaning solutions, safe use of the equipment and so on would be the brain washing of a carpet cleaner from another company who is loaded with bad habits and trained to take short cuts and sell sell sell!

Expect to see him out on his own in one of our trucks in maybe 6 months. In the mean time he’ll be learning from the best…

Clayton and Davis

I would like to compliment the young men, Davis and Clayton, who came to our home to clean our carpets on Monday.  They were very professional and did a beautiful job on the carpets.  They were able to remove some stains upstairs that had been there for a long time.  The carpets dried quickly, as they did not leave them really wet.  This whole process went very well.  Davis told me he is your son.  He is a great young man.  I’m sure you are very proud of him! Thank you!!
Sincerely,
Linda Becker

Travertine cleaning and sealing

Most Santa Cruz home owners will tell you that living on a Travertine floor is much like living on white carpet.

This soft porous stone absorbs every days soils both dry and wet much like a Berber/loop does, everything sticks to the surface and stares at you right in the eye.

and mopping just makes it worse..

These two Golden-Doodles mucked up this floor after we steam cleaned it in  just a few short months.

A stone cleaners best friends..

Luckily, the home owner had us Dry Treat the floor so now we can come back and quickly and efficiently steam clean it for the same price as regular carpet cleaning.

Due to Dry Treat’s durability, our process will not remove it so the cost of resealing is avoided for many years.

here is the floor after cleaning..

This says it all...

These photos are from another floor we cleaned recently. Notice all the soil embedded in the pits and pores and how well our steam cleaning process removed it all..

If the Tile Setter goofs, let us fix it, cheap…

This home owner wanted the grout around her pebble mosaic to go with her new granite slab fire place..

Grout is too white..

As you can see the wrong color was used and the contrast was way to strong..

So we Color corrected the grout with out removing it with a durable acrylic/concrete based color seal in Kahlua Cream..

Much more homoginous..

Our color sealing process is much safer and cheaper than removing the grout and the end result is beautiful, consistent color that is almost impossible to permanently stain.
